AgStar’s Fund for Rural America Awards Grant to Farm Technology Days
Grant allows Pierce County Youth Committee to host educational
activities throughout this three day event beginning July 20.

MANKATO, Minn. (July 20, 2010) – The AgStar Fund for Rural America recently awarded a $10,000 grant to the Farm Technology Days youth committee. The grant allows the youth committee to provide a fun, interactive program for attendees at the Farm Technology Days youth tents. These tents feature booths and hands-on educational displays for attendees.

This grant allows the youth committee to support active learning for attendees and their families. “Access to educational opportunities to promote agriculture and rural America is vital for the industry,” stated Paul DeBriyn, president and CEO of AgStar Financial Services. AgStar’s Fund for Rural America was excited to award this grant. “Sustaining a strong rural quality of life in agriculture is important to AgStar,” mentioned DeBriyn.

“The educational tent allows us to expose our youth to elements of agriculture in a hands-on learning environment,” stated Emily Lyon-Hansen, co-chair of the youth committee. “These two tents will expand youths’ understanding of the diversity of agricultural jobs, production, research and technology,” said Lyon-Hansen.

Since its inception in 2001, the AgStar Fund has donated over $2.9 million to organizations working to improve the future of rural America. Applications considered for funding and support must align with the Fund’s mission to “enhance the quality of life and future opportunities for rural residents and their communities.” The Fund focuses on four key areas of support: Education, Technology, Environment and Quality of Life.
