AgStar’s Fund for Rural America Awards Grant to Springfield FFA

Mankato, Minn. – (June 2, 2009) The AgStar Fund for Rural America recently awarded a $5,000 grant to the Springfield FFA.  The grant will be used to expand and upgrade the horticultural lab at Springfield Public High School.

These upgrades will provide more realistic conditions that will simulate a real-life growing environment meeting current industry standards.    The goal of the entire program is to give students an opportunity to see first-hand the growing process of plants and the importance of proper management to promote healthy growing conditions for crops produced in the area.

“Ag education for our youth is vital and AgStar is proud to award this grant to ensure that students in the area are able to experience this innovative and hands-on learning environment,” said Jody Bloemke, AgStar Fund Administrator.

Since it’s inception in 2001, the AgStar Fund has donated in excess of $2.2 million to organizations working to improve the future of rural America.  Applications considered for funding and support must align with the Fund’s mission to “enhance the quality of life and future opportunities for rural residents and their communities” and focus in one of the four key areas of support: Education, Technology, Environment and Quality of Life.
