Martin County Library receives grant from AgStar Fund for Rural America
$3,000 grant awarded for technology upgrades

MANKATO, Minn. (June 28, 2011) – The AgStar Fund for Rural America, a corporate giving program of AgStar Financial Services, is pleased to announce that it recently awarded the Martin County Library a $3,000 grant.
“We are very pleased to support organizations like the Martin County Library which help to build well-educated communities and provide opportunities for life-long learning,” said Melanie Olson, Fund Administrator. “AgStar appreciates the important work they are doing to support the quality of life of rural Americans.”
The Martin County Library’s mission is to enable equal access to computers, technology and other resources for all residents of Martin County, while serving as a community hub for the exchange of ideas and information. The funds will be used to create a mobile laptop training lab, which will be used to provide technology training classes on subjects such as how to use the Internet, Microsoft Office and social networking tools.
The Martin County Library system serves the more than 20,000 residents of Martin County through its five locations in Fairmont, Sherburn, Trimont, Truman and Welcome. The library system provides access to print resources, public computer access, computer training as well as story times and activities for children.
“Our library space was built in an age before computers became ubiquitous. Today, the demand for computer access and classes continues to grow, while our building space does not,” said Jenny Jepsen, Martin County Library Director. “With the grant from AgStar, we were able to purchase equipment to create a mobile computer lab, which provides us with the flexibility we need to meet the ongoing needs of our library users in Martin County.”
Since its inception in 2001, the AgStar Fund has donated more than $3 million to organizations working to improve the future of rural America.
